At Emmerling Psychology we believe that families are a key component in the healing process. Many parents have shared with us that they feel very helpless, lost, and fearful of taking on this role as they do not want to make anything worse for their loved one or feel ill equipped with the skills needed to bring about change.

Family Counselling
Family Counselling is for clients within a family unit. All combinations including adult child / parent(s).
Family relationship break down or conflict is a very common presenting concern and is often the result of individuals being hijacked by their own emotions and then attempting to get those needs met. At Emmerling Psychology, we believe in the healing power of families and how important it is to include and support all members of the family in the healing process. We strive to help families identify the maladaptive emotions and patterns that are maintaining symptoms or leading to conflict/relationship break downs. This involves creating a safe space for each person to process their emotions and learn new skills to have their voice/emotions heard, understood, and validated. It also means helping each person to have more awareness of their own emotions, patterns, and triggers so that they are able to have more control over their communication style.

Couples Therapy
Couples Therapy is for two clients within a relationship (ages 18+).
There are many reasons why couples may reach out for support and this can range from a desire to improve a relationship that has lost some of its spark to issues like infidelity and broken trust. Many couples are also looking to develop the skills needed to open up communication, learn to resolve conflict, and also repair ruptures in the bond. At Emmerling Psychology, we believe it is important to understand the perspective of each person and the problematic patterns in the relationship in order to help support the couple in strengthening their emotional connection, understanding, and creating a more secure/safe bond.
